ABOUT US
HYDRO Surf School is located on the Esplanade at St Clair Beach in Dunedin, New Zealand, and provides lessons to all abilities, all across the greater Otago Region.
We are a branch of the very well known family company, HYDRO SURF, which first opened shop doors at St Clair Beach 1985. In 2025 we purchased the Esplanade Surf School from our friends Jason and Evie, and are now the sole ISA + Surfing NZ certified Surf School in the Dunedin area.
As for lessons, we are spoilt for choice when exploring the beautiful Dunedin coastlines. If you are looking for smaller fun beach breaks to more advanced waves, we can help dial in your lesson to suit you perfectly.

Already know how to surf?
If you’re not jumping in a lesson and just want the gear, all good! We have a wide variety of equipment available from High Performance Boards, Soft Boards, Fun Boards, Long boards, plus Body Boards, Flippers, and a wide range of wetsuits to fit all sizes.
MEET THE CREW
All our crew are qualified ISA Surf Coaches and have current First Aid Certificates. They have vast knowledge of all our local areas and will only conduct surf lessons in safe conditions. Our coaches are dedicated in creating a safe, fun and knowledgeable environment to grow your confidence with surfing and in the water. They thrive on seeing you achieve your best and that huge smile when you stand up on your surfboard for the very first time. Their enthusiasm and love of surfing is contagious, you will hear many "Yahoo's" coming your way!
